In 1948 Spalding Gas was founded by Ed Whatley when he opened his office in a back alley of Griffin. Answering the phone in the mornings and making deliveries in afternoon with one small delivery truck, he grew the business with attentive personal service. Later his wife, Dollie, and two brothers, Alton and Winston, joined him as the business expanded rapidly in the post World War II economic expansion.

Today Ed and Dollie’s son Darrell and his staff of 25 serve over 9000 families and businesses in 15 counties in South Metro and North Central Georgia from three locations; Griffin at 415 West Solomon Street, McDonough at 26 Racetrack Road, and Fayetteville at 790 Glynn Street South.
